STAGE & SET
SET DESIGN - taking the concept of the playwright's setting and converting it into a workable set on our intimate stage. Artistic ability and visualisation skills are called for, we can help with an understanding of how a stage works.
SET BUILDERS - most of our sets are wood and canvas based, so if you are handy with a drill or saw this might be your idea of fun. We also put together items of 'furniture' (bars, tables, beds and chaise-longues) that fit our sets.
SET DECORATORS - Some basic painting, but also wallpapering required. For some sets, particularly panto we need artistic ability on a large scale for forests, dungeons and villages.
PROPS - these range from cauldrons to cutlasses.Props have to be resourced, borrowed or made for all productions. We do have a prop store, but there are always new items that come up.
STAGE MANAGER - this is an important job during performances. The stage manager is in charge of making sure the set or scenery is moved at the correct times and that the stage crew know what they are doing. They also get to draw the curtains!
STAGE CREW - are responsible for moving the set under the direction of the stage manager. A certain amount of physical strength is required, but it is certainly not a job for boys only, most of our crew at the moment are women.
